This place remind me and my wife about our students time, during which we have lived in halls of residents :) Layout of the building and its structure is very similar.

Nevertheless amount of space in this hotel was beyond our expectations. Children loved it! We had spacious apartment with big living room, fully equipped kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. All of that for just 70 Euros. Great value for money.

Breakfast was tasty and better than we expected. We could say that scrambled egg was actually made on site by the lovely breakfast lady (not prefabricated or just heated up like it is done in some places those days). Additional charge for that though.

On street car park just in front of the building - free of charge.

Unfortunately wi-fi wasn't free.

Rooms were clean and tidy but interior fittings a bit old fashioned for us (looks like from nineties).

The surroundings of this hotel isn't great. Located near the train line and in poor area of the town. Nevertheless it was easy to find it and great for tram city tours we have had in Dresden.

Dear Friends!
I must warn you about the receptionist of this hotel ANJA ZESCH! Since I asked her to provide me with the booking confirmation she's showed her non-client-oriented approach and loutish behavior! When I indicated her rudeness she got furious and cancelled my booking on behalf of their "General Manager Andrea Metzel" in the worst manner. I am upset now because I disappointed with the European service, which is the best one, I suppose. Especially in Germany. I think such people as ANJA ZESCH must leave their places in European service.
Thank you in advance for you assistance.

We rented a couple of standard rooms for 4 days during Easter week. At first we were a bit sceptic (internet access is pretty steep as is often the case in Germany), and one of the rooms seemed very remote (very large building and long corridors), and you have to use your key to open the corridor doors. Furthermore, the breakfast isn't the most exciting selection we have come across. But it was alright.

But the plus side turned out to be bigger: First of all, the staff is both service minded and pleasantly down to earth. The rooms we staying in all had actual kitchen facilities, which is immensely convenient, since there are several smaller supermarkets nearby. To sum it up: It's cheap, relaxing, convenient and easy to get there by car as well. In other words: We are probably gonna stay at the Artis hotel the next time as well.

The area seems pretty average and semi-industrial in terms of social composition and architechture. But it is also quiet despite the railway line close by. There is a fitness center (gym) at the other end of the building, and you can park on a large platform next to it, which seems safe enough. You can take either tram 1 or 2 from Schäfer Strasse (the parallel street), so getting from and back to the hotel is very easy.

Get a 2-day rail/tram/bus card for tourists at the Tourist Office in the Kulturpalast. It'll give you access to most of the museums in the inner city, so in the end it really pays off, and most of the trams run all night despite the city's limited size. So get a tram map and enjoy this fantastically diverse small city (walk north from Albertplatz to see the colourful Neustadt, or to Postplatz and Prager Strasse to go shopping in the 'posh' inner city that looks like any other modern city). Zwinger and the Grüne Gewölbe museum for art, arms and jewellery are fascinating - or decadent depending on your personal taste! ;-)
